Celebrating Valerie: From Student to Intern, and Now a True Inspirational Instructor
At Texas School of Music, we believe that growth, creativity, and community are at the heart of every musician’s journey—and Valerie Perez embodies all of these values and more. We are incredibly proud to celebrate her story here at TSM!
We asked Valerie to tell us a little about her story here at TSM and here’s what she said:
“I’ve experienced exponential growth while being a part of the TSM family. Since beginning my journey as a guitar student in 2022, I joined the school in hopes of delving deeper into my craft. With the support and knowledge I gained along the way, I quickly realized that music was my passion—and that this school was my forever home.
I found myself in an environment where I performed with other musicians for the first time as I became a part of a few ensembles. Working toward a common goal and embracing creativity through music gave me a sense of fulfillment I had never experienced anywhere else.
The sense of achievement in now working alongside the amazing team that contributed to my development—not just as a musician, but as a person—is higher than any note I’ve ever sung. Thanks to this opportunity, I now get to teach the school’s first all-girls ensemble! I’m beyond grateful for the chance to inspire the next generation of musicians, just as I was inspired only a few years ago.”
Watching Valerie come full circle—from student, to intern, to instructor—fills our hearts with pride. She represents everything we strive for at TSM: excellence, empowerment, and the joy of making music together.

Outside of TSM, Valerie continues to shine as a performer in the local music scene. Since January, she’s been playing a regular Sunday set from 11:00am - 2:00pm at El Mesquite (424 Broadway Street, Houston, TX 77012), where her vocals, stage presence, and confidence have flourished. It’s been a meaningful step in her journey—one that reflects the same passion, dedication, and growth she brings to everything she does.
