Celebrating Summer, Welcoming What’s Ahead

With summer wrapping up and school beginning, we’re ready to dive into a new season of music-making at TSM. The highlight of our summer? Definitely Summer Music Camp, where instructor Sal Velasco led 30 kids ages 5–12 through four hours of music and fun each day.

Students got hands-on experience with a big collection of instruments—piano, drums, percussion, trumpet, recorder, trombone, saxophone, ukulele, and group voice—and learned through both structured lessons and plenty of lively music games.

The camp wasn’t just for beginners—Sal kept the more experienced kids on their toes too, introducing new skills like reading lead sheets to keep things interesting. What stood out most was that 80% of the kids were brand new to TSM, and by the end of camp several had already signed up for lessons. For us, the best part is seeing people dive in, catch the music bug, and want to keep playing.

That energy is carrying us right into what’s next. It may still be 100 degrees outside, but fall is just around the corner. We’ve got upcoming classes, ensembles, and lots of ways for students to keep learning and creating together.

Our blog will be expanding too, with new series that explore music’s connections to science, creativity, and the world around us—plus the return of Student Spotlight to celebrate our amazing students. There’s plenty more ahead—so stay tuned! 😉
