Piano Lessons
The World of Music with 88 Keys:
Piano Lessons for All Levels
“The piano keys are black and white, but they sound like a million colors in your mind.” –Maria Cristina Mena
Spoken differently, Thelonius Monk declared, “The piano ain’t got no wrong notes.” Any way you look at it, it’s clear to see why the piano is regarded as the fundamental musical instrument, and here at Texas School of Music we treat it as such. In our studio you will find a piano or keyboard in every room and we encourage students to use them even if they are pursuing other instruments.
We believe the piano provides two major advantages: accessibility and visual layout where even beginners can quickly grasp fundamental concepts and begin playing simple melodies. In our piano lessons-for all levels-we use these advantages to focus on essential musical knowledge and proficiency. These include:
- Practicing Sight-reading
- Mastering Rhythms
- Understanding Chord Progressions
- Recognizing the Roles of Melody and Harmony
- Perfecting Scales
- Cultivating Improvisation Techniques
- Polishing Performance Skills
Your Piano Pathway
In addition, as a piano student, you will be exposed to a wonderful variety of musical genres such as classical, jazz, pop, Latin, Broadway, blues, and many more. When you embark on piano instruction in our studio, the world of music is yours, whether you want to play in a band, at church, prepare for a competition or recital, or just for your own enjoyment.
Before you begin taking this exciting journey, it’s important to have a clear roadmap. The first step on your piano pathway is to ask yourself why you want to play and what type of music truly ignites your musical passion. Then, you and your instructor can chart out a course specifically for you. If you already know your way around those 88 keys, your instructor will give you an assessment of your skill level and target areas for obtaining the level of performance you want to achieve.
The Most Enriching Musical Experiences
As you pursue your piano pathway, you will undoubtedly find that the most enriching musical experiences come from collaboration with fellow musicians. At Texas School of Music, we give you that opportunity through our diverse programs and activities, where you can share learning and playing experiences with like-minded people. We hope you’ll join our community and enjoy all that we have to offer for music lovers like yourself.
